Some customers will say yes straight away. Others will hesitate. That's normal, and almost every objection comes from the same place: they don't yet know how protected they are.
Below are four ready made replies, one for each of the most common pushbacks. Copy, personalise, and send. Replace the bracketed text with your details.

Objection 1: "I don't like money coming out automatically"
Subject line: You stay in control, here's how
Hi [Customer name],
Completely understand, and it's the most common question we get.
Here's the part most people don't know. Direct Debit actually gives you more control than a bank transfer, not less.
You're notified before every payment, so nothing ever comes out as a surprise. If anything is ever taken in error, your bank refunds you immediately under the Direct Debit Guarantee. And you can cancel at any time, directly with your bank, without even asking us.
Compare that to a bank transfer, where once the money leaves your account, it's gone. Direct Debit is the only payment method with a built in, no questions asked refund.
The setup takes 2 minutes and you can cancel whenever you like. Happy to answer anything else.
Thanks,
[Your name]
Objection 2: "What if you take the wrong amount?"
Subject line: What happens if a payment is ever wrong
Hi [Customer name],
Fair question. Here's exactly what protects you.
Every payment we collect is tied to an invoice, so the amount is always the amount you've been billed. You're told the amount and the date in advance, before anything is collected.
And if a payment were ever taken in error, the Direct Debit Guarantee means your bank refunds you immediately. Not after a dispute, not after weeks of back and forth. Immediately.
It's honestly the safest way to pay us. Setup takes 2 minutes and I'll send the link whenever you're ready.
Thanks,
[Your name]
Objection 3: "I prefer to pay by bank transfer"
Subject line: Why we're moving away from bank transfers
Hi [Customer name],
Totally get it, it's what you're used to.
The honest reason we're changing is that bank transfers create work for both of us. You have to remember to log in and pay, we have to send reminders, and things slip through on both sides.
With automated billing there's nothing for you to do. The payment happens on the agreed date, you're notified beforehand, and you're covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee, which actually gives you stronger protection than a transfer does.
One 2 minute setup, then you never think about paying us again.
Thanks,
[Your name]
Objection 4: "Sounds like a hassle to set up"
Subject line: 2 minutes, once, and you're done
Hi [Customer name],
It's genuinely quicker than paying one invoice by bank transfer.
You click the link, confirm your details, and that's it. No app to download, no account to create, no card to enter. Two minutes, once, and every future payment takes care of itself.
Here's the link: [Setup link]
If anything's unclear, just reply and I'll walk you through it.
Thanks,
